Samuel Smith’s Imperial Stout – Beer Review

From David- Founder of Sommbeer: Ice cream or Samuel Smith’s Imperial stout.  Seriously, that question entered my mind.  When I get the ice cream out for my kids I really don’t give it much thought until the sprinkles come out.  I go weak for sprinkles.  Problem is I just feel like I’ve got this daily allotment thing for calories.  If I exceed the mystery limit, all heck is gonna break loose and I’ll have to wear “stretchy pants” to work tomorrow. I chose the stout.…

A Tale of Two Dark Beers

Featured Contributor Matt  @SportsNCraftBeer Beer Review #1: Deschutes Brewing’s  Black Butte Porter I purchased a six-pack of Deschutes Black Butte Porter with knowledge from several beer-rating sites of its overall popularity. However, I am rather picky about my porters, notably since I do not prefer porters that are overwhelmingly coffee flavored – I am not a coffee drinker. Fermentation, Aging and Oak – The Food Trinity

From David- Founder of Sommbeer: Ever notice how some combinations just make sense?  Cajun cooks live by this concept.  When they use onions, bell peppers and celery for the foundation of almost all of their dishes it’s referred to as the Cajun Trinity.           A few weeks ago I was grilling asparagus on the grill, topped with balsamic vinegar.  The meal also included aged cheese and some fresh bread.  What to drink with my bbq?  Red wine!  All this…

Beer Review – Expedition Stout from Bell’s Brewery – Hide this beer from yourself

This is a heavy thick beer that is expensive and needs to be aged.  I learned about the aging the hard way when I cracked open my first 6 pack last year.  I was overwhelmed with the taste of molasses and a harsh finish. After 1 year of aging this beer is amazing.  The trick is to buy this beer and hide it from yourself.  Seriously, buy it, hide it and forget it. Rating: Outstanding, will buy every year Alcohol by Volume ABV :  10.5% …
