Style: Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout
Package: 12 oz Bottle
I’m a sucker for a good bourbon barrel stout, but let’s be real who isn’t. Being in Michigan has spoiled me with breweries like Founders, Dark Horse and Bells brewing up some of the best BBA stouts in the world. I’m a self-proclaimed craft beer connoisseur so sometimes I need to see what other states have to offer. One of my more recent bottle acquisitions was the Brewer’s Reserve Stout by Central Waters Brewing Company. I’ll be honest, I have not had a chance to try many of their beers. So I went into this one with no preconceived notions or expectations.
Stout Brewer’s Reserve pours dark brown/black with a thin head. There was some nice light tan lacing around the glass. The aroma was all bourbon, but as the beer warmed vanilla and roasted malts started to come forward. The taste is similar to the aroma, but you get more of the oak and chocolate flavors. The flavors were very balanced even with all the bourbon and alcohol. The thing that I was not expecting was how carbonated it was. It made for an interesting mouthfeel giving it a lighter feeling than most BBA stouts that I have tried. Overall, I enjoyed this well balanced flavorful BBA stout. I will defiantly be checking out more Central Waters Brewing Company beers in the future.
Feel free to let me what you think. Until next time, Cheers!
