From David- Founder of Sommbeer:
Just another lazy day on my back deck enjoying some “Outdoor Living” with my better half. It snowed a lot last year, so we are going to enjoy every ounce of warmth this summer – even when it rains. Today it’s raining and we are drinking a beer on the deck . In fact, I’m drinking a 312 from Goose Island. It’s a light beer that’s easy to drink, perfect for summer.
My serene summer afternoon soon exploded with one question from one innocent question from my wife. “Isn’t Goose Island owned by Budweiser”? She asked.
I couldn’t “Google It” fast enough on my smartphone, fingers trembling heart racing. Could this be true? What kind of corporate clowns in lab coats made my beer? What synthetic form of corporate hops did they infuse into GM barley to make it taste like beer? Worse, can the neighbors see me drinking this stuff? Siri, was the one that actually confirmed the bad news. My 312 is a Bud. I drank a Big (M)ass Brew.
Thankfully, I had one of my favorite craftbeers sitting nearby – Jackhammer from Arbor Brewing. I cracked the cap as soon as I could and poured it into a pilsner glass. The color is dark and rich, it’s smell is malty and multi-layered and the taste – wow. I love this beer. It’s not for everyone as it is rich and very viscous.
A beer true to the label, it is an Old English Ale. The high abv (8.2%) and calories (> 250)are not ideal for a hot summer day. When I have two of these, I have to mow the lawn to burn off the calories, unless of course it’s raining.
