Pure Brews America: Season 2 Ep. 3 Recap

This weeks episode of Pure Brews America starts in Royal Oak Michigan at Roak Brewing. Right off the bat we go to the production area of Roak and get to see Shannon learn the joys of cleaning out a mash tun.  It’s a dirty job but definitely fun to watch and shows a side of brewing that a lot of people either might not be aware of or simply might not think of.  Ryan then shows us the tap-room which has a really nice modern look.  There’s also a passion for music at Roak as well which is on display and pairs well with their slogan “Roak on”.

After visiting Roak the crew hits one of my personal favorites in the state of Michigan, Perrin Brewing.  Ryan starts by talking with the President of Perrin Keith Klopcic who tells us the story of how the brewery was basically born out of  retirement.  We also get to hear the back story of the beer “No Rules“, one of the most fascinating beers made in the country and definitely a Perrin classic. After watching Ryan and Shannon have a can packing competition U.S. Congressman Bill Huizenga even stops in and talks a little bit about the craft beer industry.   The time spent at Perrin works out to about 10 minutes of screen time but it’s abundantly clear how passionate this company is with their beer.
