This week on Pure Brews America Ryan and Shannon check out two more acclaimed breweries in the great beer state of Michigan. On this episode the crew goes behind the scenes at Perrin Brewing in Comstock Park Michigan and also make a stop at Roak Brewing!
Opened in June of 2015 Roak Brewing is, relatively speaking, a new and up and coming brewery that is right in the heart of Royal Oak Michigan. Being open for just over a yeah hasn’t stopped the momentum at Roak, in just a short time the company has already made a name for themselves with such popular offerings like Devil Dog, Blow Your Face Out, and Chestnut Head.
While visiting Shannon got the joy of cleaning out the mash tun!
– In the Mash Tun – Brandon MacClearon, Head Brewer at Roak, decided it was my time to clean out the spent grain from the mash tun! We put a cameraman, Kyle Hill, and I inside with a shovel and hose! Things got hot and messy from there to say the least!
Also this week the gang headed out west to Perrin Brewing. Perrin has been around for about 4 years now and in that time they have built a reputation for cranking out not only reputable but also award-winning beers. Their Grapefruit IPA is a welcome addition to any summer event and their classic limited release stout No Rules is one of the most intriguing beers that I have ever had the joy of trying.
– Packing Grapefruit IPA – Ryan and I challenged each other to see who could fill a 12-pack of Grapefruit IPA the fastest! I had my boxed glued and closed; I thought I had him beat. Then, I looked down and realized I only packed 11 cans, but really…I just left one out to drink!
Speaking of No Rules, apparently the big annual stout has a bigger brother brewing called Nuclear No Rules! You can bet we’ll have an eye open for that!
– Nuclear No Rules – Everyone has heard of Perrin’s No Rules, but I don’t think anybody is aware of Nuclear No Rules! This baby is going to be packed with alcohol! They have been moving one barrel’s worth of No Rules from one first use barrel to the next over the last few years. Can’t wait to see when they release it!
