Greetings and salutations, craft beer enthusiasts.
I’m Bill Mayeroff and I’m a new addition to the SommBeer team, so I wanted to tap out a quick post introducing myself.
Before I talk about myself, though, I need to thank three people: John and David for giving me the chance to write here at SommBeer and Matt for introducing me to John and David. Happy to be on board.
I’m based in Chicago (the city; not the suburbs), which means I’m in the middle of a mecca of fantastic beer. I was properly introduced to craft beer around my 21st birthday in early 2006. My girlfriend at the time (with whom I am still friends and whose beer tastes still put mine to shame) suggested we go to Hopleaf, which is one of Chicago’s best craft beer bars. That was my first time trying beers beyond stuff you could easily get in a grocery store.
But my love of good beer was cemented when I moved to Moline, Ill. in August of 2007. I was fresh out of college and starting a job as a newspaper. By sheer dumb luck, I wound up living three blocks from Bent River Brewing Company. My first trip there was Aug. 28, 2007, in fact. It was a Tuesday and I found that Bent River’s Tuesday special was $2.50 pints. That was also when I discovered Uncommon Stout, which is my favorite stout and is probably my favorite beer of all time.
I don’t have any grand mission as a contributor to SommBeer. I just like to learn about beer and write about what I’ve learned. So that’s what you’ll get here. What forms it will take, I don’t know. But it will be fun.
If you’re at all interested in connecting via social media, I’m totally down for that. Here’s a handy bulleted list of the ways you can do that, (including clickable links):
- Follow my beer-drinking exploits on Untappd. My handle there is @billymax.
- I’m @bill_mayeroff on Twitter. I tweet a lot about beer and dogs.
- Like everyone else, I’m on Facebook. Send me a message if you’d like to connect there.
- And finally, I have a blog about dogs and beer you’re more than welcome to check out; it’s called Pints and Pups.
There you go. Again, thanks to John, David and Mat. L’chaim and happy drinking.
We are always interested in new contributors at Sommbeer.
