Beer Review – 420 Extra Pale Ale From SweetWater Brewing

On Tuesdays, one of our local bars like to feature all of their beers for $2. That’s right, $2 Tuesdays, all day, every Tuesday. And yes, it can get a little crazy. Well, I decided to swing by on one of those days and do some beer reviews. And, one of my choices was this little dandy here, Sweetwater Brewing’s 420 Extra Pale Ale. And no, there wasn’t any 420 benefit included. First thing that I noticed was that there wasn’t much of a head…

Beer Review – Heller Bock from Josephsbrau Brewing

For this review, I decided to take a look at the Heller Bock from Trader Joe’s Josephsbrau brewing. This 7% ABV Helles Bock lager is a nice smooth ride as a golden lager. It pours as a nice dark amber ale with a nice off white head. It’s aroma is much like a floral bouquet with hints of breadiness, and it’s flavor is has a good burst that provides a nice average to long duration. But be aware, as this one does provide a slight spice…

Finding Elusive Yetis at Great Divide Brewing Company

The title is not a euphemism. Denver is a great town for wanderers. You can easily skulk around the whole city in a day, and even better, explore a few neighborhoods thoroughly while stumbling around from bar to bar. Just a quick shuffle from the heart of the city you’ll find Great Divide’s original location, still one of my favorite spots. As you head down Arapahoe out of the city, you suddenly start to see a silhouette of fermentation tanks rise in the distance. Next…

Pure Brews: Season 2 Ep. 7 Preview

This week on Pure Brews America Ryan, Shannon and the crew start off by heading to the northern part of Michigan and visit Right Brain Brewery in Traverse City. Right Brain has a reputation for thinking about beer a little different and making beer that will definitely make you think about what’s in your glass.  Their flagship CEO Stout won the award for Michigan’s favorite stout in 2012 and the breweries line up has only grown and become more creative in the years that have…

Lagunitas Brewing 12th of Never Ale – 6-Pack Review

When you mention Lagunitas Brewing to an adamant beer drinker, you probably get a lot of opinions on not only their beer, but also about how they make it and the backstory behind it. The iconic brewery has been a west coast staple since founder Tony Magee opened his first brewing location in 1993 in Lagunitas, California, and has since expanded into Chicago, and into a new spot back in Azusa, California. When the Chicago location opened in Douglas Park in the summer of 2014,…

Stone Cow Brewery – Review

Stone Cow Brewery Review Barre, Massachusetts Massachusetts has quickly become a beer lovers paradise with more than 125 breweries currently open and more on the way.  Western Massachusetts specifically has become home to some of the top breweries in the state despite, according to many Bostonians, being in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do.  The relatively rural and quiet region of Western Mass has no shortage of wonderful craft breweries and was recently named a Top 11 Beer Destination by Thrillist Magazine.  You won’t find…

Pure Brews: Season 2 Ep. 6 Recap

This weeks episode of Pure Brews America starts at Unruly Brewing in Muskegon Michigan.  Unruly has an awesome rock and roll vibe and really has a feel of a fun environment, you can tell by watching the taproom but you should really had out and investigate yourself. Plus this brewery is haunted! No Kidding, the building used to be a post office that tragically had a fire in it claiming the lives of 3 firemen.  We get to see Shannon go ghost hunting in the…

Owd Rodger Country Ale – Beer Review

Owd Rodger Country Ale made by Marstons Brewery located in Wolverhapton, United Kingdom Owd Rodger, made by English brewers, Marston’s, caught my eye as it is both a strong beer and a dark, sweet brown ale. It is styled as a “Country Ale” but this is an appellation which does not appear in any of my beer reference books. To me this is a strong or Imperial Brown Ale and the brewers should be justly proud of it. Owd Rodger pours a dark brown colour and…

Venice Duck Brewery Review

Venice Duck Brewery Venice, California   In Venice, California, “local” is almost the secret password. Living or working in its bounds does not make one an ipso facto local. In Venice, local is not so much geography as a vibe and a way of being. It is tough to describe but impossible not to recognize when you are here. Both mellow and yet somehow unmistakably in your face, it defines the wide diversity of the locals who comprise Venice in the shared experience of being……
