5 Things I Learned Reviewing 45 Craft Breweries & 225 Beers in 2 Months

Your vote counts!

Your vote counts! It has been two months since I launched my beer blog (CraftBeerInSanDiego.com) and it just passed 1,100 page views. I’m excited that people are finding and reading what I’m writing. It has been a great deal of work, and on a few occasions when I have felt the pressure to get the next post out, it has made drinking beer feel like a chore instead of a joy. But overall beer blogging has been a great experience. If beer blogging is something you feel…

Profmanfredi’s Top and Bottom Beers of 2016

Before I launch into my best and worst here are the qualifications: all the beers listed were tried for the very first time in 2016. It does not matter when the beer was released, only that I tried it for the very first time in calendar year 2016. Please note that the bottom ten are mostly styles that I tried and did not like and are not a slam on the brewery or the beer, just not my cup of tea for whatever reason (although…

Beer Review – Heller Bock from Josephsbrau Brewing

Your vote counts!

Your vote counts! For this review, I decided to take a look at the Heller Bock from Trader Joe’s Josephsbrau brewing. This 7% ABV Helles Bock lager is a nice smooth ride as a golden lager. It pours as a nice dark amber ale with a nice off white head. It’s aroma is much like a floral bouquet with hints of breadiness, and it’s flavor is has a good burst that provides a nice average to long duration. But be aware, as this one does provide a…

Bastone Brewery Review

Your vote counts!

Your vote counts!Bastone Brewery located in Royal Oak, Michigan Thursday morning I went outside to find that all four of the wheels on my vehicle had been stolen. I live in Plymouth Michigan so this was not an expected site. The thing is, I had to get to Royal Oak to meet Easy E., my only buddy silly enough to split the $200.00 Westie six pack with me, at Bastone for a business meeting. I had to act quickly calling the police, the insurance company,…

My Journey to the Center of a Can

Your vote counts!

Your vote counts!Featured Contributor – Eric Rosentreter  Eric Rosentreter   Every once in a while something I witness will get stuck in my head and I just need to learn everything about it. This happened to me recently and it has become an obsession of mine. It is quite simply the most important thing to happen to craft beer in quite a while. It may seem the world of craft beer has dominated by cell phone check-ins, mobile applications that regurgitate aggregate scores from strangers and passive…

Corporate Adam / Local Adam

Your vote counts!

Your vote counts!Editors Note: This is an independent review, Sommbeer.com did not receive any compensation for this article. Quotations are intended to be accurate but I can only write so fast. From David- Founder of Sommbeer: Corporate Adam / Local Adam When a corporation wants to have a national reach and maintain a local feel what do they do? At worst they mandate standards from a central office. At best, they provide support and expertise that only concentrated corporate resources can provide while allowing local…

Hop Häus – Plantsville Connecticut – Bar Review

Your vote counts!

Your vote counts!Featured Contributor: Craft Brew Gal @CraftBr3wGal My boyfriend and I were more than excited when we heard that a craft beer bar was coming to our area. We live in the Southington Connecticut area, and although there are many places in neighboring towns to grab a tasteful craft brew, there aren’t that many local spots in our immediate area. Having your “go to” bar out of town can be a drag, so when we found out Hop Haus was going to be right down…

Bar Hop Toronto: Beer Bar Review

Your vote counts!

Your vote counts!Featured Contributor: Andrew Newton @DrinkMeLocal Trying to find a great beer bar in an unfamiliar city can be a difficult affair. Everyone’s website makes great claims, menus look good, and a rave review can often mean little. While visiting Toronto, Canada, last month I was in just this predicament. As the largest city in Canada, Toronto has a lot of options for your beer sampling. I was there judging the Canadian Brewing Awards and had access to some of the most knowledgeable local beer geeks.…

Hopcat Detroit: Beer Bar Review

Your vote counts!

Your vote counts!Featured Contributor – John Fahrner @fahrn13 from Michigan If you’re a beer geek and reside in the mid-west more than likely you have heard of the chain of craft beer bars known as Hopcat.  Their 4, soon to be 6, locations in the states of Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin are the craft beer lovers dream in many ways.  I’ve already checked out the Hopcat location in  Grand Rapids, and the East Lansing pub serves as a “home base” throughout the fall on Saturday afternoons for…
