Adventures in Ohio City’s Craft Beer Scene

Featured Contributor:  Bill Lowe  @BillsBeerReport Living in Michigan spoils you when it comes to the craft beer boom. There are hundreds of brewpubs and micro breweries and even more still applying for the licensing. It’s always fun to travel around and try different beers from different breweries. One of the cool things that comes with writing a beer blog and doing a beer podcast is that when you travel people want to show you how cool the craft beer scene is where they live.  The last…

Bent Brewstillery – Brewery Review

Featured Contributor:  Bill Lowe  @BillsBeerReport Since March I have been spending a lot of time in Minnesota for work. In that time I was able to visit Surly Brewing Company, Big Wood Brewery, Hammerheart Brewery, and Indeed Brewery and have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of craft beer being produced in Minnesota. On my last trip I was able to finish work early on Friday and visit another brewery before heading to the airport. This time I decided to visit a placed called Bent Brewstillery…

Surly Brewing Company – Beer Hall Review

Featured Contributor:  Bill Lowe  @BillsBeerReport  After working Saturday I decided it was time to head down to Minneapolis and try out some of their breweries. The first brewery I visited has been on my list since my first time in Minnesota when I tried one of their beers, Surly Brewing Company. I head down the towards downtown using my Waze app to guide me towards my destination. As I arrived in an industrial style park I became confused and concerned. There was no way that at the end…

Big Wood Brewery – Review

Featured Contributor:  Bill Lowe  @BillsBeerReport The name really says it all. Big Wood Brewery’s Tap Room is located in White Bear Lake, MN tucked away between 4th and 3rd street off of Cook Ave. The entrance is located off a well lit alley and as you walk in, the entrance kind of reminds me of Cheers. Its not as open an entrance as cheers, but its elevated higher then the rest of the bar. I half expected the people to turn around and welcome me with a hearty…

Chatterbox and Magnanimous Black Ale – Beer & Brewery Review

What about the family that had ALL of the Hasbro Board Games. It seems like growing up board games were amazing and fun for the whole…

Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout by Hideout Brewery – Beer Review

Featured Contributor:  Bill Lowe  @BillsBeerReport While checking my Untapped news feed I saw a very interesting beer check-in from a local radio personality, Spike from the channel 95.5 Mojo in the Morning Show. The check in was for a Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout by Hideout Brewery. A Peanut Butter Stout is something I had never tried before, and I had never heard of Hideout Brewery. Spike had given it a good review so it was worth trying to find. I figured he had to have tried…

Rogue’s Double Chocolate Stout – Beer Review

Featured Contributor:  Bill Lowe  @BillsBeerReport Its 25 degrees with snow flurries and freezing rain, March has officially begun. After a weekend full of craft beer up in Grand Rapids at the Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Beer Festival as well as the Founders tap-room, it is time to settle back into the normal routine of work and life. As I sit thinking of the spring and summer that is just around the corner, a classic film comes over the television waves and into my cable box. The…
